License/Security
Issues
PaqRat is
telling me I need a site key and I just installed it for the first
time. What do I do?
When
PaqRat first comes up, the security window appears first and
says "Press <Enter> to configure license."
You should ignore this window until you have purchased the
software and have received an emailed Site Key. If you
wait a few seconds, the box will go away and PaqRat will run
normally.
If
you get another window that says "Program Not
Authorized", copy and paste the Site Code into an email (it
looks like "FF2E E244 AB98 E3A1 32") and ask techsupport@paqrat.com
for a new trial key. We have not been able to determine
why some people do not always receive the trial period.
I have run
PaqRat for a couple days, but now it's telling me that my license
isn't authorized and my 7 day trial isn't up yet!
There
are three things that PaqRat security will detect and see as a
threat, locking the program down and invalidating the rest of
the 7 day trial--changing the system time by more than 1
hour 15 minutes, uninstalling/reinstalling the software,
and Norton disk defragmentation programs.
If
these happen to you, email your new site code to techsupport@paqrat.com
and explain what happened. We will send you another
temporary key good for 3 days to help you make your decision to
buy PaqRat or not.
If
you are using a disk defragmentation utility, you must use the
utility to mark the files in the "PaqRat" directory as
unmovable, or your site key will be invalidated again the next
time it runs.
Downloading
Issues
It is
skipping over things I want it to download!
There
are two possible reasons for this. The first is that the
extension of the file is not in the list of valid extensions in
the Options settings. Select File->Options and edit the
extension list to include the types of files you want to get.
The
second possible reason is that the domain and path (the
subdirectories) are a new combination which PaqRat does not
recognize as being a part of the website it is
downloading. PaqRat skips over a lot of links in an effort
to only download the site you specify and not attempt to
download the entire Internet!
If you would like PaqRat to load those items,
right-click on the item in question and select "Add Domain
to Allowed List" so that PaqRat will consider it a part of
the site and download it. Then hit "Fetch!"
again.
Sometimes
it only gets one URL on the list and it just stops. What am I
doing wrong?
This
is usually because you have that URL selected
(highlighted). If entries on the URL list are selected,
PaqRat will only load the selected ones, rather than go down the
whole list.
Sometimes
it just hangs a long time on one URL and doesn't do anything.
Why?
Some
servers have problems and go down occasionally.
Unfortunately there is no way to know ahead of time that the
server is down until PaqRat attempts to download something from
that server. Unlike Explorer or Netscape, PaqRat does not
yet have a "Stop" button to interrupt the problem and
move on. Instead, you must wait for the request to time
out before the next URL will be attempted.
Errors
with the server or image errors will be displayed (if there are
any) in the Errors column of the URL List.
PaqRating
Issues
Sometimes
the PaqRatings feature quits working. Why is that?
If
you get server errors while PaqRat is attempting to communicate
with the PaqRating database, don't worry about it. It
means that www.paqrat.com is
down temporarily, but will not affect your ability to download
from other websites.
I voted,
but my vote didn't show up when I reloaded the PaqRating.
PaqRat
remembers the address of the last person to vote on a website's
PaqRating and prevents multiple votes in a row by the same
address to minimize spamming of the ratings given. If your
vote doesn't show up, it means that PaqRat thinks you have
already voted on that website.
